Travel life hacks for those who frequently travel by train

Traveling by train is an opportunity to slow down, look out the window, and move forward without the hustle and bustle of airports and queues. But frequent trips quickly reveal the downside: uncomfortable seats, night flights, delays, noisy neighbors. The good news is that most of these issues are easy to control if you know a few proven life hacks.

1Things under the seat ≠ safety

On crowded trains or at large stations, things that are “right there” often disappear. A small life hack is to attach your backpack to the seat with a strap or carabiner. It’s almost invisible, but it reduces the risk.

2Choose a car, not just a seat

On many trains, the first and last cars are noisier: they are located next to the engine room, technical units, or passenger queues. The quietest cars are closer to the middle of the train. There is less movement, the temperature is more stable, and it is usually quieter at night.

3Delays can be used to your advantage

If the train is delayed, don’t rush to be the first to get off. Often, during long stops, conductors allow passengers to use the car’s services for longer or help with information about transfers. Calm communication works better than rushing here.

4A compartment near the conductor is not always a disadvantage

It is believed that compartments near the conductor are noisy. But in reality, this is where problems are solved the fastest: temperature, lighting, other passengers, technical issues. For frequent travelers, this is sometimes a better option than the “ideal” compartment in the middle.

5The arrival platform is a hidden advantage

By finding out in advance which part of the platform your car usually arrives at, you can leave the station faster, avoid crowds, and make your connection or transport. For large stations, this saves 10-15 minutes.

Traveling by train has its own rhythm and logic. Once you get a feel for it, minor inconveniences fade into the background, and the journey becomes enjoyable.
