The pitfalls of booking airline tickets yourself

Booking tickets yourself seems convenient and quick—a few clicks and your trip is planned. But in reality, it can hide a number of “pitfalls” that can turn even the cheapest ticket into stress and additional expenses.
We have compiled a list of the most common mistakes so that you can avoid them on your next trip.

1 Too short connections between flights

30–40 minutes in the schedule looks ideal, but in practice, it may not be enough.
A delay of even 10-15 minutes on the first flight or a long walk between terminals can make you miss your next flight. Allow at least 1.5-2 hours between flights, especially at international airports.

2 Unfamiliar airports

Many cities have several airports, which may be located far apart.
If you don’t notice that flights depart from different airports, you will have to spend extra money and time on transportation. Check airport codes (for example, CDG and ORY in Paris are different locations) before paying for your reservation.

3 Ignoring ticket refund rules

The cheapest fares usually do not allow for refunds or changes.
And if you have to cancel your trip, you will lose the entire amount paid for the “bargain ticket.” Be sure to check the refund policy before purchasing — sometimes a slightly more expensive fare gives you more flexibility and peace of mind.

Online search and independent booking are great tools if you approach them with caution. Check the details, don’t rush to pay, and remember: a comfortable trip starts with attentiveness even before departure.
